30 years

of economic research transformed

Mango Media transformed nearly 30 years of CSLS research into a searchable, SEO and AI-ready digital library.

The story

The brief behind the work

Canada’s leading think tank on productivity research needed a website that matched its reputation and modernized nearly 30 years of research without losing the links and citations built over decades. The site also needed to launch in time for a major publishing milestone.

Two-Phase Website Rebuild & Research Archive Transformation
Timeline
Phase 1: 4 weeks · Phase 2: 2.5 weeks
01
The challenge

What had to change

CSLS had spent 30 years building an extensive body of economic research, much of it accessed through PDF files and older archive structures. Modernizing the website could not come at the expense of the backlinks, citations, and search visibility built over decades.

  • 01

Make more than 650 reports and articles easier to search and explore

  • 02

Give Google, Google Scholar, and AI platforms clearer publication context

  • 03

Preserve existing backlinks, citations, and referral traffic through careful URL mapping

  • 04

Launch the redesigned core website in time for the 50th issue of the International Productivity Monitor

02
The approach

How the work moved

With an important publishing milestone approaching, the project was strategically divided into two phases: launch the new core website first, then transform the historical research archive with the care it required.

  1. 01

Rebuilding the core website in four weeks

We rethought the site architecture, visual design, and content organization to create a cleaner experience and a stronger technical foundation, then launched in time for the milestone publication.

  2. 02

Transforming 30 years of research in 2.5 weeks

We reorganized more than 650 reports and articles into a searchable digital library with keyword search, research-theme filters, and list and block views for easier scanning.

  3. 03

    Protecting existing search authority

We mapped legacy URLs to their new locations and built a redirect strategy designed to preserve the authority and referral traffic associated with decades of citations and backlinks.

  4. 04

Building for Google, Google Scholar, and AI

We implemented publication pages, internal linking, structured data, publication-specific metadata, machine-readable markdown versions, and an updated llms.txt file.

By combining web strategy, design, information architecture, custom development, and modern search optimization, we helped turn decades of valuable research into a digital resource built for how people and technology find information today.

“We are thrilled with our new website. Mango Media took on the complex challenge of transforming nearly 30 years of research into a modern, accessible, and searchable digital library, while preserving the links and citations built up over decades. Maggie and her team were thoughtful, responsive, and remarkably effective throughout the project working under tight deadlines. We would highly recommend them.”
